4) Understand How MeterHero is Student-Driven

  • A) Project Plan: Students log into Dashboard.meterhero.com, click a their meter and complete the next step in the project plan.

  • B) Help pages: Students can review instructions and access graphic organizers that help them complete each step.

  • C) Data Dashboard: As they go along, they enter real utility data and build their charts.

5) Understand Options for Students Without Access to Meters at Home

MeterHero is engaging because it empowers students to analyze their own real utility data. However, because it is real-life, some students who live in apartment buildings, on wells, or who are navigating housing instability might not have access to water meters at home.

If students can’t access a meter or a utility portal, students can audit, or measure, specific uses of water, like showers or sprinklers, anywhere: at home, the school, your apartment, your place of work, or in your neighborhood common areas.

6) Choose When you Want to Implement MeterHero

Because MeterHero makes APES real for students in just six steps (that take little class time), it’s the ideal enhancement for start-of-the-year, units 5/6 or Post-Exam.

Note: *Ideally, students have three weeks to collect baseline data, experimental data and report out their findings. If you have less than three weeks after the exam, simply have students only collect a few days of data and complete Steps 1 and 2 during Units 5/6.

MeterHero is ready-to-go.

9) Get admin buy-in

Districts have rules, for good reason. Direct admin to MeterHero.com/legal to find everything they need to grant approval.

Good news, we never collect household identifying information and have invested in the latest accessibility features so that all families are able to participate. We are funded by local utilities who want students and families to be as water and energy efficient as possible, know about career opportunities, and know about local assistance programs.
